Skin laxity 101
Today I want to talk about Laxity. A lot of women complain about Laxity, mainly because as we age this is one of the biggest identifiers of age, the Skin starts to sag and get looser. There are a lot of factors that contribute to laxity as we age one of the key elements being bone loss and generally a depletion of collagen and elastin.
That lumpy dewy skin you have as a baby or young adult starts to change and your skin starts to get drier and more mature. This leads to wrinkles and laxity. Having worked in the entertainment and fashion field taking care of your skin is a major aspect of staying young and looking youthful. After all in the entertainment field, your beauty is your power.
So let’s go over some of the things you can do to prevent this from happening to you. What I want to focus here are on preventative measures that will stop the laxity and wrinkles from happening or at least delay them for another ten to fifteen years.
Most people think fillers are the answer but trust me fillers are only providing a moisturizing effect that will soon disappear and too much filler causes that puffy unattractive face. I have noticed that women who have been doing fillers for years are just plain unattractive. They look older.
You should aim to look at least ten years younger than you are. I know it may seem like a hard call but it is relatively easy if you start early enough. I believe you should start an anti-aging regime in your twenties. Firstly start with good skincare and then follow with yearly tweakments that will nourish your skin and help keep your skin quality.
Think of your skin as a scaffold. You have to make sure the base is well supported or else the whole thing falls apart. So a good skincare and supplement regime is of utmost importance. Use skin care that feeds your skin and always use sunblock to avoid overexposure to the sun and elements that will cause havoc to the skin. Always use a good moisturizer.
Try and have a facial at least 3 times a year and if you cannot afford to. Buy a face steam spa and steam your face weekly to clean your pores and get rid of excess sebum.
But the number one thing you should avoid is excess sun exposure. Think sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen.
The second thing you should do is make sure you are eating a healthy diet hopefully one that also has a lot of green leafy vegetables and avoid soda and sugar as much as you can. Did you know that sugar breaks down the collagen bonds and this can age you as you get older?
Don’t forget your supplements. Supplements are so important, think Omega 3, Collagen, Vitamin D, and hyaluronic acid supplements. If you are taking a multi supplement please make sure you are not double dosing.
Now let’s get to the good part. The secret I told you I will tell you at the beginning of this video. One thing I started using in my 20s is Polylactic Acid. This can be found under several names like Sculptra and Lanluma.
Polylactic, acid is great for the skin as it is not a filler but rather forces your skin to produce its collagen. It works from the inside out. When it is injected the skin starts to produce more collagen. I started this in my 20’s. When you do Polylactic acid fillers it is advisable to do 3 treatments about 6 to 8 weeks apart and then you can do yearly top-ups.
I still top up yearly till today and polylactic acid fillers have helped me keep age at bay.
When you have them injected. The result is immediate but then it goes down the next few days and after about 6 weeks it starts to show. This is because when first injected it is just the product that makes your skin look plump then with time the product disappears and your collagen starts to grow on its own.
What I like about Polylactic acid is, that there is ZERO filler in your face but it helps make the skin thicker and the dermis and epidermis appear much more youthful and thicker. This constant collagen growth I believe makes the skin appear much more youthful and keeps sagging at bay. If you maintain your yearly top-ups trust me laxity will not be your problem for a long time.
Now the next thing is needling devices with radio frequency energy. I think this is better when you first notice the signs of aging rather than when one is young and nice and plump. I am wary of these devices as with the wrong setting they could also melt your subcutaneous fat layer which sometimes may not be what you want.
My philosophy is don’t break what’s not broken.
So, radio frequency devices like Morpheus 8, Vivaci, and many more can produce results and tighten the skin, but as mentioned earlier this may be at the expense of losing a bit of facial fat. I mean if you have laxity it is probably better to lose a bit of facial fat and have tighter skin than walking around with a saggy face.
Remember radio frequency treatments need several sessions to get results. You will need at least 3 or more sessions to see any major difference in your face. But as mentioned earlier prevention is key.
Let’s talk threads. I would say you should forget them and don’t waste your money. They are the biggest scam I believe, as everything soon comes sagging down just as it was before ., it could act perhaps as a temporary fix but I doubt it very much. So if I were you I would just avoid them altogether.
Ok, now something else you may want to consider in the realm of radio frequency are things like Accutite, Facetite, or Endolift. All these treatments use a probe that goes under your skin to deliver radio frequency.
These can be a bit more intrusive as the probe goes under your skin to deliver the radio frequency energy. I have seen good results from these devices.
Now note none of these devices can make you totally tight especially if you have severe laxity. If you have mild laxity then they can help, But with severe laxity, they will provide a great improvement of at least 50% to 65 %.
As mentioned earlier in this video I am talking about laxity and preventing it and not necessarily treatments that you need once you are severely lax like a facelift.
Bone Loss plays an important role in Laxity. When we age we lose bone density in our face so our skin starts to drape over the face rather than stay tight, The skin may be good quality but if there is nothing to hold it there is a draping-like effect. Which then makes you look older as the skin sags.
I could talk about things like red light therapy, micro-needling and pro, etc. But these treatments are more like maintenance and have not been proven to prevent laxity.
With laxity, you can delay it , but it soon comes catching up. It is nearly impossible to prevent it from occurring altogether.
So the key is to start young, plump up your skin, and remember that if you start early it is much better. If you are older follow the same suggestions but add things like Endolift or Facetite if the sagging has already begun. These will give you at least another few years before your facelift or some new invention is created where you can tighten everything once and for all.
So remember prevention is better than cure. For you, young ones out there Polylactic acid will help prevent the wrinkles from starting and keep you looking younger for so much longer.
